Heartwarming Stories from Participants
1. Suki's Journey with Homerton NICU
One of the youngest participants was baby Suki, who was born almost three months premature, weighing only 1.2kg. She spent 78 critical days in the NICU. Caring for a baby in the NICU costs about £2,000 a day, and neonatal equipment can save lives. The funds raised by Suki and her family directly support Homerton NICU, ensuring more babies like Suki have a fighting chance. Support Suki’s Fundraiser.
2. Gabby's mission to support the Whipps Cross Neonatal Unit
Gabby’s daughter, Clara, received exceptional care at Whipps Cross Hospital when she was born prematurely in 2019. Our amazing NeoHero Gabby kept in touch with the incredible neonatal team. Please support Gabby and give back today.
2. Team Kabir's Mission for Barnet NICU
Another participant, part of "Team Kabir," recounted their experience with Barnet NICU. Their journey into parenthood took an unexpected turn when their baby was born very prematurely. The NICU at Barnet Hospital became their second home, and the dedication of the staff was invaluable. The participant expressed their gratitude and commitment to giving back by participating in The Incubator Push to support Ickle Pickles and Barnet NICU.
3. Paul & Niamh Supporting Homerton NICU
Paul and Niamh joined the Incubator Push to fund vital neonatal equipment at Homerton’s neonatal unit. Niamh, a dedicated physiotherapist, had spent her career helping sick and premature babies and raised funds to support developmental care. She shared her appreciation for the support from Ickle Pickles, which helped them acquire much-needed equipment beyond what the NHS could offer. Support Homerton’s NICU.
5. Team Royal London Hospital
Keta, part of Team Royal London Hospital, aimed to ensure every premature baby received the critical care needed to thrive. With the cost of an incubator of £28,000, Keta joined Ickle Pickles' mission to make a big difference to small babies. Donate to Keta and Team Royal London Hospital.
6. Haajrah Malik's Inspiring Journey
Haajrah, a devoted mother and passionate advocate, joined the Incubator Push with a heartfelt mission. Her journey with the NICU began with each of her three children, all born prematurely. Facing significant hurdles—from battling growth restrictions to the complexities of Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome and the challenges brought upon by COVID—Haajrah's story is a testament to the resilience of premature babies and the unwavering dedication of neonatal teams. Join Haajrah in making a difference and support her fundraising.
7. Gemma’s Pickles: A Story of Inspiration
Gemma's Pickles, inspired by Ickle Pickles Ambassador Gemma Collis—a premature baby who became a world champion in wheelchair fencing—took on the Incubator Push to raise £28,000 for life-saving neonatal equipment. The group was committed to giving every tiny fighter a chance. Donate to Gemma’s Pickles.
Each of these stories highlights the incredible strength of families and the vital role of NICUs in supporting premature and sick babies.
The Big Picture: Supporting Neonatal Care
The need for neonatal care in the UK is significant, with one in thirteen babies born prematurely. The Incubator Push was an inspiring event that brought together passionate individuals committed to making a difference.
