Ross Pollock’s 1000-mile skating challenge

Ross is a keen skater but he’d never skated that 1,000 miles! However, absolutely nothing could stop him from smashing his 1000-mile goal on quad skates which he completed in 75 consecutive days. His twins Jack and Jasmine were born at 25 weeks and spent 3 months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Portsmouth Hospital. They’re now 8 years old, yet Ross admits that what they went through was incredibly tough for their family.

“We all have our challenges in life – the twins, what they went through, was the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced. I wanted to do something to raise money for the hospital through Ickle Pickles to help other babies and their parents who are on a similar journey in their fight to survive.”

Ross battled injuries, dogs and weather to reach his personal best for 14 miles (an unbelievable 1hr 7min and 8s). He even appeared as a guest on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch. His massive achievement raised over £2500 helping to provide much-needed special-care equipment so that other Ickle Pickles have a better chance of survival.

If you’re up for any type of challenge, either on roller or ice skates, skateboarding or just sitting in a tub of beans - we have fundraising ideas for all the family.

We’re entirely funded by voluntary contributions from organisations and individuals and are extremely grateful for any donation we receive.
