Our Work
Ickle Pickles are the smallest and sickest babies who need intensive care in neonatal units.
There are over 90,000 babies born sick or prematurely in the UK every year. One in thirteen babies are born prematurely.
Ickle Pickles can be a full term babies (40 weeks) requiring treatment or surgery or more likely babies born prematurely (before 37 weeks). Babies born before 27 weeks are classed as extremely premature and it is often these tiniest babies who need the most help.
Since 2009, the Ickle Pickles children’s charity has been raising money for the intensive care equipment that treats these babies and helps to keep them alive.
DonateOur Impact
Since 2009, our charity has raised more than £4 million, providing direct support to over 50 neonatal units and three neonatal transport services. We have donated over 900 essential pieces of equipment, significantly improving intensive and special care for newborns across the country. Our efforts grow each year, expanding our reach and impact.
About Us
The Ickle Pickles offers a unique opportunity to help vulnerable babies at a critical time in their lives.
Our long-term plan is to become the charity partner for 150 neonatal units and to donate vital equipment to every neonatal unit in England & Wales.
We strive to give every newborn a chance by working and campaigning nationally whilst delivering tangible benefit for local parents, neonatal units and communities.
The Ickle Pickles Pledge
Balancing a tight budget with the costly needs of neonatal care is challenging. With NHS budgets under pressure, neonatal units often have urgent equipment needs. We collaborate with these units to find tailored solutions and provide funding for essential equipment.
Under the Ickle Pickles Pledge, we are committed to partnering with neonatal units and neonatal transport services to curate a wishlist of the most urgently needed equipment based on clinical need. We can help you access the funds your unit needs.
World Prematurity Day
World Prematurity Day on 17 November is one of the most important days in the year to raise awareness of the challenges and burden of preterm birth globally.
Every year, the Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity supports World Prematurity Day, shining a spotlight on the 90,000 babies born sick or prematurely in the UK. From wearing purple to hosting a bake sale or volunteering, you can help bring attention to the challenges of prematurity and provide support to those who need it most.
