Fiery Fundraiser to support Croydon’s Neonatal Unit
Croydon Health Charity and Ickle Pickles Charity will host a daring Firewalk on Saturday 21 November at West Wickham Rugby Football Club.
The dedicated charity for Croydon Health Services NHS Trust has launched its first-ever Firewalk Challenge in partnership with the Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity to raise £10,000 in support of Croydon’s premature and sick babies during World Prematurity Month.
Both charities support the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at Croydon University Hospital by funding additional medical equipment and improved facilities to support the 400 babies the team cares for every year.
The charities are asking people to take part in the thrilling Firewalk and walk barefoot over hot embers or navigate a Legowalk to raise vital sponsorship.

Josie Hammond, Neonatal Unit Matron, Croydon University Hospital, commented:
“Donations provided by Ickle Pickles and Croydon Health Charity make a real difference to our Neonatal Unit. From carer beds and twin cots to glidescopes, ‘Neopuff’ resuscitators, incubators and furniture, their impact has enhanced our patient experience. We need as many firewalkers as possible to help us do even more for our tiny babies”.
Rachael Marsh, Co-Founder, Ickle Pickles Charity, added:
“Every year over 90,000 babies are cared for in neonatal units up and down the country. Ickle Pickles supports over 50 hospitals and transport services, including Croydon University Hospital, by purchasing life-saving equipment and making things easier for families at an incredibly difficult time. It’s just £25 to register for our incredible firewalk, which will be led by a professional master instructor so all health and safety aspects are well and truly covered.”
The Charities are seeking raffle prize donations and corporate sponsorship to support the Firewalk. For more information, please contact laura.kennedy8@nhs.net
