Ickle bits of kit

All monies donated are gifted to Neonatal units in the form of restricted grants – these ensure the monies are used to purchase vitally needed equipment.

We work closely with receiving Units clinical management teams to ensure the equipment bought is actually needed when the grant is issued.

The following equipment is vital to Neonatal care:

Incubator

Typical Cost: £15,000
Function: To isolate the baby and control the temperature and environment
Typical Lifespan: 7 years
 

Transport Incubator

Typical Cost: £22,000
Function: Transports babies between Hospitals providing intensive care on the move
Typical Lifespan: 6 years
 

Ventilator

Typical Cost: £25,000
Function: Provides oxygen and support whilst the lungs grow and mature
Typical Lifespan: 5 years
 

Brain Monitor (EEG Monitor)

Typical Cost: £22,000
Function: Monitors vital brain activity – helps assess brain injuries & monitor seizures
Typical Lifespan: 5 years
 

CPAP machine

Typical Cost: £10,000
Function: Maintains continuous air pressure making breathing easier in the first weeks of life
Typical Lifespan: 7 years
 

Neopuff

Typical Cost: £700
Function: The Neopuff is a flow dependent infant resuscitator that delivers breaths manually with controlled and accurate pressure during resuscitations and transportation
Typical Lifespan: 7 years
 

Vital Stats Monitor

Typical Cost: £10,000
Function: Monitors the babies physiological functions, alerting the nurses to problems
Typical Lifespan: 10 years
 

Phototherapy lights

Typical Cost: £3,000
Function: Treats jaundice in newborns by breaking down billirubin in the bloodstream.
Typical Lifespan: 10 years
 

Infusion Pumps

Typical Cost: £3,000
Function: Administers fluids, medication or nutrients in the small yet regular doses required by the tiniest babies.
Typical Lifespan: 10 years
 

Saturation Monitor

Typical Cost: £500
Function: To monitor the oxygen saturation & pulse rate
Typical Lifespan: 5 years
 

Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure Device (BPAP)

Typical Cost: £9,600
Function: The BPAP offers support to newborn babies by increasing airway pressure in the air that the baby breathes in. Ie it makes the work of breathing easier.
Typical Lifespan: 7 years
