The 3 Peaks Challenge

Location: Ben Nevis Scafell Pike & Snowdon

Date: 29 Jun 2012

Time: 24 Hours

Appeal for: University College London Hospital

A team from UCLH; Sean Mathieson, Sarah Wilsher, Kati Grey, Anna Reilly and Angela Backen (driver) took on the challenge to raise funds for the UCLH NNU - to successfully complete this challenge they climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just over 24 hours. They raised £750 which is a great start to our appeal for an EGG machine.

Many sick babies have problems that may affect and damage the brain such as birth asphyxia, meningitis, bleeds and many others. An EEG machine is used to measure brain activity which is useful for diagnosis and prognosis and detecting seizures, therefore prompting rapid treatment. UCLH have two EEG machines already but often have more than two babies that need monitoring, so desperately they need a third.

UCLH would also like to furnish a ‘Parent Room’ with settees and comfortable surroundings where doctors and parents can discuss sensitive issues regarding a baby’s health in a calm environment to minimise stress.
